Netizens laud High Court's order for CTOS to pay up

KUALA LUMPUR: Netizens welcomed the High Court's recent ruling instructing CTOS Data Systems Sdn Bhd (CTOS) to pay RM200,000 in general damages for inaccurate credit rating.

The order was for CTOS to retribute 43-year-old resort owner Suriati Mohd Yusof after she sued for negligence and breach of fiduciary duty in misrepresenting her credit rating leading to a loss of reputation as well as both personal and business losses.

Many took to express their happiness over the ruling on NST's social media post noting that it was high time for CTOS to be held accountable.

Muhazzan Mansor said many financial institutions used CTOS as a threat against one's credit rating.

"In Malaysia we don't use credit rating unlike in other western countries where the landlord can deny your rental application," he said.

Adrian Chin echoed the comment, adding that CTOS to be credible, it has to be responsible for "screw-ups."

Meanwhile, some netizens ask whether trust can be restored after the High Court's decision.

Mohamad Amjad said: "So.. can we trust ctos rating(?) since CTOS kept on offering me updates on my rating score with a certain fee."
