Anwar holds meeting with German Chancellor

BERLIN: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was accorded an official welcome ceremony at the Federal Chancellery today in conjunction with his six-day official visit to Germany.

The prime minister, accompanied by senior ministers, was greeted upon arrival by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

The Bundeswehr orchestra then played the Malaysian national anthem Negaraku and the German national anthem, Deutchlandlied.

Anwar and Scholz inspected a guard of honour mounted by the Wachbataillon of the Bundeswehr, or the German army.

Anwar and Scholz then attended a four-eyed meeting, followed by a delegation meeting.

The Malaysian delegation was represented by International Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick, Malaysian ambassador to Germany Datin Paduka Dr Adina Kamarudin and others.

The German delegation, meanwhile included Dr. Jörg Kukies who is the State Secretary for Economic, Finance and European Affairs, as well as Dr Peter Blomeyer, who is the German ambassador to Malaysia.

Anwar, earlier in the day, paid a courtesy call on German president Frank-Walter Steinmeier at the latter's official residence, Bellevue Palace.

He had also toured the Siemens Energy plant in Huttenstrasse, where he was briefed on the plant's operations, particularly on the production of green hydrogen as a renewable energy source.

The prime minister's visit to Germany will see him meeting German government leaders, representatives of major businesses as well as captains of industry.
