Power disruption to affect 62,093 accounts in Sabah, Labuan

KOTA KINABALU: A power disruption today (March 12) is expected to affect 62,093 accounts in Sabah as well as Labuan.

This will affect the districts of Tawau, Pitas, Beaufort, Kuala Penyu, Nabawan, Ranau, Tuaran, Kota Kinabalu, Lahad Datu, Kunak, Kudat, Sandakan, Tenom and Papar, as well as Labuan.

The power disruption was implemented to ensure the stability of the Sabah power grid.

Sabah and Federal Territory of Labuan Grid System operator Adrian Mosigil said there were technical problems at Generation Unit 2 at the Kimanis Power Station and Generation Gas Turbine Unit 2 and 3 at the Patau Power Station.

Both had tripped at 10.03am, affecting power generation.

"The Generation Gas Turbine Unit 2 and 3 at the Patau Power Station were restored within one hour from the tripping.

"The Generation Unit at the Kimanis Power Station requires some time for restoration," Mosigil said.

The power disruption began at 11am and may last until 8pm today.

"SESB (Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd) is making efforts to ensure that power restoration will be carried out in stages.
