JOHOR BARU: Local white rice and subsidised cooking oil packages are increasingly difficult to find in the market, at convenience stores and supermarkets here.
A survey at several supermarkets in the Plentong area here found more imported white rice, fragrant imported rice, and Thai fragrant rice being sold.
Local white rice packs weighing 5 kilogrammes starting at RM19.99, however are seen placed on shelves in limited quantities.
As for subsidised cooking oil packages, most convenience stores claim to receive limited supplies and are unable to meet customer demand.
Housewife, Hafiza Ramli, 43, said the quality of local white rice is not like before.
She said the rice seems to be mixed with fragrant rice, poor-quality rice, and ordinary local white rice.
"Previously, we used to eat local white rice, but the quality has decreased. When cooking rice, it becomes easily stale.
"The price is already expensive, so now we buy imported white rice for better quality," she said.
