Government unveils new initiatives to support Bumiputera entrepreneurs

CYBERJAYA: The initiatives announced by the Prime Minister during the Bumiputera Economic Congress are new, aiming to assist more Bumiputera companies and entrepreneurs, says Unity government spokesman Fahmi Fadzil.

He made this comment following Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia (Isma) president, Aminuddin Yahaya's claim that Bumiputera entrepreneurs had faced setbacks due to a lack of government assistance.

"I feel that he should be open-minded and have positive assumptions or goodwill towards the efforts and initiatives of the government to assist the Bumiputera entrepreneurs, companies, and support aid that the government intends to provide.

"This should not only be based on past references that may have been used, but also take into account the efforts that have either achieved or not achieved their objectives.

"What the Prime Minister announced on March 2 are new initiatives that we hope will be able to help all Bumiputera entrepreneurs and companies," he told reporters after officiating the launch of Telekom Malaysia's revolutionised digital healthcare services with next-gen e-pharmacy here today.

However, he suggested Aminuddin meet Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who played a pivotal role in organising the congress regarding any questions that he might have.

During the congress, the government announced a RM2 billion allocation to assist Bumiputera entrepreneurs.

The measures aim to aid Bumiputeras, namely, in entrepreneurship, Malay reserve properties, technical and vocational education and training, and wakaf.
