Kapitan Keling Mosque organises various programmes for children throughout Ramadan

GEORGE TOWN: The Kapitan Keling Mosque, the oldest mosque in the state, continues the tradition of enlivening the mosque with children by organising various educational programmes this Ramadan.

Kapitan Keling Mosque secretary Mohamed Rizdwan Abdul Ghafoor Khan said, during Ramadan last year, the mosque committee provided cards to record the attendance of children who completed 20 rakaat of tarawih prayers for 10 days and gave them gifts.

"This year, the mosque committee made improvements by giving the children a mini booklet to record their attendance at the tarawih prayer for 30 days.

"In addition to recording the presence of children who perform tarawih prayers, the mini booklet contains a Ramadan 'checklist' to help children to understand the worship that should be done throughout this holy month such as recitation of the Quran, qiamulail and others," he said.

Elaborating, Mohamed Rizdwan said the mosque committee also continued the tradition of giving gifts to children who successfully completed 20 rakaat of tarawih prayers for 10 days as a motivation for them.

Prizes will be given up to the 30th day of Ramadan in stages to children who successfully completed the 20 rakaat of tarawih prayer.

"We give this gift to make them happy and encourage them to appreciate Ramadan," he added.

Meanwhile, Mohamed Rizdwan said the mosque committee also organised children's tadarus every Saturday after finishing tarawih prayers.

"Usually, this tadarus programme is only attended by adults, but we are reforming it by organising tadarus for children.

"This children's tadarus programme is to celebrate the children and encourage them to endear themselves to the mosque," he said.

He said the Qiamulail Cilik programme would also be held on March 30, especially for children to perform qiamulail and do various interesting activities at the Kapitan Keling Mosque.

"Through this Qiamulail Cilik programme, besides performing prayers, children will participate in archery activities, animal shows, tahajud and sahur together," he said.
