Pulut nangka the latest Ramadan delicacy craze in Kelantan

KOTA BARU: Pulut mangga or mango sticky rice mango is a delicacy that is well-loved among locals, and not just during Ramadan.

The popularity of pulut mangga, however, has prompted a local trader to introduce another Thai dessert: pulut nangka (jackfruit).

Suri Wan Ali has been selling pulut nangka at her stall along Jalan Tok Hakim here since last year.

"I realised that pulut mangga was a favourite among Kelantanese for many years and wanted to make a different kind so that l can attract my own buyers.

"Last year, l decided to produce another dessert called pulut nangka. Its ingredients are similar to pulut mangga... I replace mango with jackfruit to make the dessert more sour," said the mother of three.

The 37-year-old from Rantau Panjang claimed that her new product received overwhelming response from the public.

"This sticky rice with jackfruit has all the sweet, silky and creamy taste of pulut mangga, plus a little bit of a sour taste. I price it at above RM3 per serving, depending on the size," she said.

Suri, who operates the stall between 3pm and 7pm every day, said she manages to sell nearly 50 servings of pulut nangka in a day.
