Kelantan Umno head says non-Muslim party leaders should not interfere in 'Allah' sock issue

JELI: Kelantan Umno warned leaders of non-Muslim political parties not to interfere with the issue of socks bearing the word 'Allah' that were sold at KK Super Mart.

State Umno liaison committee chairman Datuk Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub said the non-Muslim party leaders like Nga Kor Ming would cause disharmony in the country when he is involved in the issue.

"This issue is about religious sentiments as it involves the sanctity of Allah's name.

"The people and Muslims in this country have had enough of what happened.

"I would like to warn Nga and other non-Muslim political leaders not to interfere in this matter. It is better for them to focus on their own religion," Jazlan told reporters after a breaking of fast organised by the Jeli Umno division at its headquarters here last night.

Also present were Jeli Umno division chief Datuk Adhan Kechik and Jeli member of parliament Zahari Kechik.

Nga, who is also a DAP vice chairman, recently criticised Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh for disregarding the "Madani spirit" in his response to the convenience store's action in selling socks with the name of "Allah" printed on it.

The Local Government Development Minister also advised Akmal to refrain from inciting religious and racial sentiments, describing such tactics as outdated.

Nga said Akmal should not fan racial and religious sentiments "with such an arrogant attitude", adding that such behaviour was harmful and unproductive.

It was reported that police have opened two investigation papers concerning the sale of socks with the name of "Allah" printed on them at the KK Super Mart store in Bandar Sunway, Selangor.

Federal police Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain had said 42 police reports were lodged nationwide regarding the case.

Previously, photos of the socks being sold at a KK Super Mart in Bandar Sunway went viral, drawing criticism from social media users.

KK Mart Group has since issued a public apology amidst boycott calls of the chain.
