Human Resources Ministry aims to enhance skills training with amendment to SDF Act

KUALA LUMPUR: The Human Resources Ministry, through the Skills Development Fund Corporation (SDFC), is in the process of amending the Skills Development Fund (SDF) Act 2004 (Act 640) to allow further improvements to be made to skills training programmes in Malaysia.

Deputy Human Resources Ministry Datuk Abdul Rahman Mohamad said the amendment also aims to provide a broader interpretation of changes or establishment of skills training programmes in the country.

With the amendment, he said that other skills training programmes under the National Skills Development (NSD) Act 2006 (Act 652) could also be further recognised.

"These amendments will allow SDFC to also improve programmes in Malaysia, other than the Malaysian Skills Certificate.

"At the same time, we will also get the verification and endorsement from the Skills Development Department under Sections 36, 36A, and 36B of Act 652 (of NSD)," he said during the minister's question session in Dewan Rakyat, today.

Abdul Rahman said this in response to a supplementary question from Mandzri Nasib (BN-Tenggara) who enquired about the ministry's plan to amend Act 640 of the SDF Act to ensure SDFC could channel funds for professional or competent certification that is not limited to Malaysian Skills Certification.

Meanwhile, Abdul Rahman added that the improvement towards the certification will also be recognised under the Energy Commission Act 2001 (Act 610), the Public Logging Act 1969 (Act 3) and the Malaysian Construction Industry Development Board Act 1994 (Act 520).

"With the recognition, it will also enable us to obtain more allocations and request more funds from the government to add value to the programmes."
