US ambassador Kagan presents credentials to King

KUALA LUMPUR: The United States Ambassador to Malaysia Edgard D. Kagan has presented his credentials as the 22nd ambassador to His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia today. 

Kagan in a statement had pledged to enhance the US-Malaysia comprehensive partnership, emphasising its foundations in economic, security, and people-to-people connections, as well as shared commitments to democratic governance and the rule of law.

"I am deeply humbled to serve as the 22nd US Ambassador to Malaysia, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to further strengthen the US-Malaysia Comprehensive Partnership, rooted in economic, security, and people-to-people ties, as well as commitment to democratic governance and the rule of law.

"I am committed to working alongside embassy colleagues and partners in Malaysian government, business, and civil society to create opportunities for both our peoples," he said.

He said the enduring partnership between the US and Malaysia, dating back to Malaysia's independence in 1957, was characterised by shared interests and mutual respect.

"As US ambassador, I am keen to immerse myself in Malaysia's diverse cultures and engage with its people to reinforce our common values and fortify our partnership.

"Since the first day of Malaysia's independence in 1957, our two countries have forged an enduring partnership based on shared interests and mutual respect.

"As US Ambassador, I look forward to experiencing and learning from the rich cultures and peoples across Malaysia to reinforce our common values and strengthen our partnership," he said.

Having previously served in Malaysia, Kagan and his family have expressed their appreciation for returning to the country's vibrant multicultural landscape and dynamic economy.
