Travel portal ranks Ipoh white coffee 10th in the world

KUALA LUMPUR: Ipoh white coffee has been ranked 10th in the world by culinary travel guide portal TasteAtlas.

Its Top 39 Coffees in the World list ranks the beverage from Ipoh, Perak, above renowned contenders such as Vietnamese iced coffee and Italy's espresso.

TasteAtlas attributed Ipoh white coffee's distinct taste to the unique method of roasting the coffee beans in margarine, before they are ground and brewed.

"The origins of this roasting method are often linked to Hainanese immigrants in Malaysia, who ingeniously adapted traditional techniques to craft a beverage boasting a milder, lightly caramelised coffee flavour.

"Ipoh white coffee is typically enjoyed with condensed milk, complemented by a delicate foam on the surface.

"It's important to note that Ipoh white coffee should not be confused with the broader term 'white coffee,' which may refer to any coffee served with milk or creamer," the portal said.

At the top of the list was Greek coffee and espresso freddo, followed by Cuba's café Cubano and Indian filter coffee, securing third place.
