King's donation of white rice  a meaningful gesture for the needy

KUALA LUMPUR: In Kampung Batu Muda, Kuala Lumpur, a 10-kilogramme (kg) bag of white rice holds significant value for its residents.

For Nur Azila Sahbari, 32, the donation of 10kg of rice from His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, is a lifeline for her family of nine.

"While this contribution may seem modest to some, it is immensely meaningful for us who are in need."I accept this donation with an open heart on behalf of my family. As the sole provider, this support eases my burden, especially as my husband is sick," she said.

With seven children, Nur Azila estimates the rice will sustain her family for about a week.

Earlier today, Sultan Ibrahim graciously donated 25,000 packs of 10kg rice to the needy in Kuala Lumpur for the holy month of Ramadan.

Representing His Majesty, Istana Negara Grand Chamberlain (Datuk Paduka Maharajalela), Datuk Azuan Effendy Zairakithnaini, presented the donations at Masjid Saidina Hamzah, Kampung Batu Muda.

Expressing heartfelt gratitude, babysitter Nurliyana Zulkifli, 36, another sole breadwinner, shared how the donation will support her family of six for approximately two weeks.

"I extend my heartfelt thanks to His Majesty for this rice, which will sustain my family during Ramadan," she said while shedding tears to reporters, here, today.

Sarimah Nordin, 60, expressed relief at the donation, citing recent high rice prices and her depleting household rice supply.

She said the donation from His Majesty would greatly help her and her six family members for the next two weeks.

"I am really relieved with this donation. I thank His Majesty very much for helping us, the needy. I pray that he will be given long life," she said.
