Loke, Zahid met on Umno Youth chief's remarks on 'socks' issue

PUTRAJAYA: DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke said he met Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi over Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh's remarks on the "Allah" socks issue.

Loke, who is also Transport Minister, confirmed to reporters at a press conference that he met Umno president Zahid on the matter.

However, he declined to elaborate, saying it was between him and the deputy prime minister.

It was previously reported that Loke relayed DAP's views on Akmal's remarks to Zahid at a buka puasa event hosted by Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia.

This came after Akmal issued an ultimatum to the management of KK Supermart to put up a banner at all 881 branches of the convenience store nationwide to apologise for the sale of socks bearing the word "Allah."

Loke has said DAP disagreed with Akmal's approach to the matter and that sensitive issues should be handled better.

Akmal however said he would not back down and that it was an issue concerning Muslims and Islam.

He has called for KK Supermart to be boycotted.

Earlier today, it was reported that police have completed their probe into the sale of the socks and were awaiting further instructions from the Attorney-General's Chambers.
