Papar water supply still at critical level

PAPAR: The water crisis in the district here has yet to be resolved despite the main pipe at the Kogopon water treatment plant (LRA) having already been fixed.

District disaster management committee chairman Mohd Fuad Abdullah said the Sabah State Water Department had reported that the daily water production remains at 35 million litres per day (mld) from Kogopon.

"Until today, many are still confused about the main pipe incident that occurred last Tuesday.

"They assume that with the repair of the main pipe at the Kogopon LRA, the water problem in this district has been completely resolved.

"But the level of tank P1 is still critical. Tank P1 is a water storage tank with a capacity of 10mld, and it distributes water from the Kogopon LRA to users and lorries that collect water at this plant.

"In fact, the daily water production remains at the same level as before the main pipe incident," he told the media when met at the District Disaster Operations Control Center (PKOB) here today.

Following the ongoing drought, Mohd Fuad said the community in the district have been advised to use water sparingly.

He said such measures could provide an opportunity for residents in other areas to obtain clean water supplies.

Mohd Fuad also extended his gratitude for the cooperation from various parties and hoped that the contributions and assistance in terms of manpower and logistics will benefit the affected residents.

"We received donations in the form of drinking water from bottled drinking water company Life Water Industries Sdn Bhd, totaling 3,600 bottles.

"This drinking water will be handed over to the Papar Parliamentary Office for distribution to the three constituencies, namely Kawang, Pantai Manis, and Limbahau.

"In addition to drinking water, we also received cooperation from the private sector such as Puncak Mas Resources/ Garin Rbi20, which provided two 10-tonne lorries and two 3-tonne lorries to deliver water to areas affected by the drought."

Also contributing was Asli Jati Engineering Company, which provided 189 volunteer workers to assist in water delivery operations in this district every day.
