Selangor Pas chief calls for harmony following latest development in 'Allah' socks issue

PETALING JAYA: Selangor Pas chief Datuk Ab. Halim Tamuri has called for calm in light of the recent firebombing attempt at a KK Mart outlet in Perak, which has become the latest development in the "Allah" socks controversy.

In a breaking fast event between Selangor Pas and the press, Ab. Halim highlighted the need of maintaining national harmony, arguing that while the socks incident was significant to the Muslim community, it should not jeopardise Malaysia's multiracial unity.

"The socks issue should be viewed through a broader perspective. In Pas, we don't just focus on the Allah issue; we also emphasise the importance of respecting other religions. In a harmonious society, we must handle sensitive issues with care," he said.

Ab. Halim reiterated that in Islam, insulting other religions was prohibited, and such matters should be addressed with knowledge and through proper legal processes.

He also cautioned against exploiting the issue for political gain, emphasising the need for responsible discourse.

Yesterday, a man driving a dark-coloured vehicle with a Lalamove sticker reportedly threw a Molotov cocktail at a KK Mart branch in Bidor, Perak.

Perak police chief CP Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said that CCTV footage showed the man stopping his vehicle near the store around 5.35am and hurling a glass bottle suspected of containing kerosene oil inside the shop before fleeing.

Additionally, the founder and group executive chairman of KK Group, which owns the KK Mart convenience store chain, and his wife were charged at the Shah Alam Sessions Court yesterday over the sale of socks with the word "Allah" printed on them at one of KK Mart's outlets in Selangor.
