KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today received a courtesy call from the Indian External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar, who is on a two-day official visit to the country.

Anwar in a Facebook post said the meeting, which was also attended by Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, was marked by discussions on vital areas of cooperation between the two nations.

"The meeting, among others, discussed the collaboration in the field of trade, education, agriculture, tourism, defence, digital; and science and technology."

Anwar also reiterated Malaysia's commitment to facilitate the establishment of a branch campus of the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) within Malaysian borders.

He also expressed gratitude for the recent assistance provided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a period of rice supply shortage in Malaysia.

Looking towards the future, Anwar said India also expressed its aspirations to enhance its relations with Asean, particularly in light of Malaysia assuming the chairmanship next year.

"I also express my appreciation for Dr S. Jaishankar's willingness to engage in a dialogue and visit Malaysia.

"I plan to reciprocate the visit to meet the Indian prime minister at the earliest opportunity," he said.

Anwar also hoped that the Malaysia-India relationship would continue to develop and flourish for the benefit of the people of both friendly nations.
