Palestinian residing in Malaysia expresses safety concerns amid threats from Israelis

KUALA LUMPUR: A Palestinian man residing in this country is concerned about his safety after being contacted by individuals from Israel six times.

Yousuf Abuassi, 28, said he had received threats from several Israelis for frequently uploading posts about oppression in Gaza.

"I received threats last month before making a police report. They said they would look for me until they found me.

"I am worried because in 2018 my friend Dr Fadi Al-Batsh was also murdered by them," he said when contacted today.

Yousuf said since yesterday he had been contacted by various individuals inquiring about the safety of his family.

"Alhamdulillah, many people are concerned about me and my family. They ask if I am okay after news about the arrest of an Israeli man spread.

"I am now cautious about where I go and make sure all my family members are accompanied," he said.

Yesterday, it was reported that police had arrested a couple at a Ramadan bazaar in Kuala Selangor on suspicion of supplying firearms to Israeli nationals detained at a hotel on Jalan Ampang last Wednesday.

Based on information from the couple, the police found a silver-coloured pistol with a brown handle in the trunk of their Honda Jazz car.

An Israeli man using a French passport to enter the capital city was arrested on March 27.

The police found six firearms along with 200 rounds of ammunition.

The 36-year-old man entered the country through Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) on a flight from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Malaysia.

An inspection of the hotel room where he stayed found all of the firearms including Glock 19 Marine, Glock 17 Gen 4, Smith and Wesson, Sig Sauer, and Stoeger as well as ammunition placed in his bag.

All the firearms were allegedly purchased by the suspect upon arriving in the country using cryptocurrency.

The man claimed he came to kill another Israeli because of a family dispute.
