[Updated] Pahang cops interview four witnesses to assist probe into KK Mart attack, gathering CCTV footages

KUANTAN: Police have recorded statements from four people to facilitate its investigation into the molotov cocktail attack on the KK Mart convenience store at Sungai Isap here on March 30.

Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman said among those who provided their statements to the police were the shop workers and members of the public.

"We are in the process of interviewing several other witnesses to assist investigations and identifying certain groups of individuals who had previously called for a boycott of the KK Mart stores.

"The suspect might be someone local (living here) and we are looking into all angles to nab down the culprit responsible for staging the attack," he told reporters after the Crime Prevention Walkabout at Mahkota Square Ramadan Bazaar here today.

In the 5.14am incident, a molotov cocktail was thrown at the KK Super Mart branch here which has only been in operation for two weeks. The attack resulted in a small fire at the shop's front entrance.

The attack in Kuantan was the second after a KK Mart in Bidor, Perak was hit with a petrol bomb on March 26 but it did not explode.

Yesterday, a third KK Mart store in Jalan Satok, Kuching, was hit by a molotov cocktail.

Meanwhile, Yahaya said police were gathering the closed-circuit television camera (CCTV) footage from the nearby areas to track down the individual's movements before and after the attack.

"The CCTV at the KK Mart did not capture the incident so we are relying on the other nearby cameras to assist our investigations.

"Following the attack, the KK Mart operator here has been advised to install additional security cameras at his premises to enhance safety aspects," he said.

On a related matter, Yahaya said the police have increased patrols and surveillance at all 15 KK Mart convenience stores across the state.

Police's mobile patrol vehicle (MPV) and motorcycle patrol unit (URB), he said, have been instructed to conduct regular patrols near the premises.

"There are 15 KK Mart convenience stores and two warehouses located in Pahang. The MPV and URB teams have started to conduct regular monitoring at these premises apart from their routine inspections.

"I would like to advise the public not to take the matters into their own hands when dealing with the ongoing issues involving the KK Mart stores," he said.
