No Malaysians affected by Taiwan quake

KUALA LUMPUR: Up to 10am today, no Malaysians were reportedly affected by the earthquake in Taiwan.

The Foreign Ministry said the Malaysian Friendship and Trade Centre in Taipei is closely monitoring the situation and actively coordinating with local authorities to obtain further information.

"Malaysians in the affected areas are urged to stay vigilant and follow the latest updates and guidance provided by local authorities.

"Those requiring consular assistance can contact the Malaysian Friendship and Trade Centre, Taipei at +886 2 2713 2626 or mwtaipei@kln.gov.my," it said in a statement.

Today at 7.58am local time, an earthquake offshore Taiwan with a magnitude of 7.2 rocked Taipei, knocking out power in several parts of the city and sparking a tsunami warning for the islands of southern Japan and the Philippines.
