Govt's civil service salary review expected to be announced in October, says Dr Zaliha

KUALA LUMPUR: Official announcement of the new salary scheme for the civil service is expected to be made during the 2025 Budget tabling in October.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Dr Zaliha Mustafa said the Public Service Remuneration System Study (SSPA) on the new scheme was in its final stages and will be presented to the Cabinet for further consideration.

"Salary alignment for civil servants is among the government's focus and commitment in the implementation of SSPA.

"To ensure that a fair and reasonable scheme can be realised, the matter has also been outlined under the strategy to enhance civil servants' disposal income in addressing the rising cost of living.

"Based on the plan, the official announcement is expected to be made during the tabling of the 2025 Budget in October, this year," she said in a parliament written reply.

Dr Zaliha said this in response to Tan Sri Anifah Aman who enquired Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on the status of the salary alignment process for civil servants following the government's announcement that civil servants from Feb 1 would no longer qualify for pensions and would instead contribute to the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) and Social Security Organisation (Socso).

Previously, Anwar announced the government's commitment to rolling out the new salary scheme by the end of this year

He said the salary alignment study, typically conducted every 10 years, required extensive coordination across various government departments.
