Religious affairs deputy minister: Rumours on Tilawah al-Quran event not true

KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan has refuted rumours suggesting that the national Quran recital and memorisation competition will be absent from the country's calendar of events this year.

In a series of social media postings on X today, Zulkifli pointed out that the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) has already decided that the annual national-level event this year will take place in Kuantan, Pahang from May 23 until May 28.

The international-level Quran recital and memorisation competition, he said, will take place from Oct 5 until Oct 12 at the Kuala Lumpur World Trade Centre here.

"Today, I received several screenshots claiming that the tilawah Al-Quran competition will not take place this year. I want to stress here that such claims are not true.

"Therefore, I would like to advise the public to verify the facts before spreading the information," wrote Zulkifli.

The social media postings were accompanied by many screenshots of social media users making such claims.

Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail last month announced that Pahang would be the host for this year's national level Quran recital and memorisation competition.

Wan Rosdy said the six-day long event will be held at the Pahang Sports Complex Indoor Stadium.
