Sabah to continue cloud seeding to ease drought

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah will continue to conduct cloud seeding, said state Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor today.

"We will continue these operations until the water supply issue is eased in several areas of the state.

"We need to consider the types of clouds, as not all clouds result in rain.

"The cloud seeding will be conducted based on expert consultation," he told reporters at Menara Kinabalu here.

Hajiji also said that in response to the prolonged dry season, the government had engaged the services and expertise of the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF).

He added that cloud seeding was done at the end of last month and the approach had yielded positive results.

According to a report by the Malaysian Meteorological Department, the operation achieved a success rate of 67 per cent, with rainfall reported in three targeted areas.
