PM wishes Happy New Year to Tamils, Sikhs

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today called on people to continue to foster the spirit of unity.

In his Vaisakhi and Tamil New Year message on Facebook, Anwar said unity was the foundation of the country's strength.

"Happy Tamil New Year, Happy Vaisakhi and Happy Vishu to Tamil, Sikh and Malayalee communities.

"I pray that this year will bring happiness and wellbeing to those celebrating the New Year."

The Tamil New Year is celebrated on April 14 at the start of the Chithirai Tamil month and follows the Gregorian calendar where it is on the same date every year.

The Vaisakhi festival is one of the most significant festivals in the Sikh calendar and is often referred to as an appreciation for harvested crops.
