[Updated] PM to convene special meeting on Iran-Israel conflict

SHAH ALAM: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will convene a special meeting regarding the Iran-Israel conflict this evening.

"Right now, this evening I will be discussing with several ministers and relevant officials to formulate what immediate steps we should take regarding the conflict."

He said the meeting at 6pm today will also discuss the evacuation of Malaysian citizens in the region.

Anwar said currently, Malaysia at the international stage will continue to press on so that a solution to the peace in the Middle East is assured.

"Our international stance, surely we must demand that a guarantee for peace resolution in the Middle East is met because what happens there will affect world peace and also the global economy," he told reporters at a press conference in Shah Alam.

On Saturday, Iran launched drones and missiles towards military sites on Israeli territory in response to an Apr 1 attack by Israel on Iran's consulate in Damascus, Syria.

The UN Security Council will hold an emergency meeting on Sunday over Iran's unprecedented drone and missile attack on Israel.

Earlier, Wisma Putra warned Malaysians in the Middle East of potential flight cancellations due to tensions between Iran and Israel and the closing of airspace.

It also said the safety of Malaysians residing in these four countries would remain a priority and in any case of an emergency, they were to contact the respective embassies in the area.

It also advised Malaysians affected to keep themselves updated with the latest announcements and to follow instructions from local authorities at all times.
