Johor water operator told to address supply disruptions

JOHOR BARU: Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi wants Ranhill SAJ Sdn Bhd to address every complaint lodged by the people who experienced water supply disruptions during Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

"Its top management had promised uninterrupted water supply throughout Johor during Hari Raya. However, the state government received numerous complaints about interrupted water supply," he said.

More than 1,000 households in Kulai — Gagasan Murni Jaya, Kampung Sri Muar and Felda Bukit Permai — experienced water cuts during Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

Ranhill SAJ previously assured the state government that there would be no water supply problem in the areas.

Onn Hafiz took to his Facebook to express dismay that Ranhill SAJ had failed to deliver on its commitment.

He urged the state water operator to ensure water supply disruptions did not occur again, especially during festive celebrations.

"The state government is frustrated that recurring water disruptions have marred the people's Hari Raya celebrations and public holidays.

"These disruptions seem to be an annual affair. I want Ranhill SAJ to promptly address each water supply disruption.

"Ranhill SAJ should have taken proactive measures and elevate the quality of its services to ensure the wellbeing of the people," read Onn Hafiz's post.

Earlier, state Housing and Local Government Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor expressed his disappointment with Ranhill SAJ's service.

The Bukit Permai assemblyman said the water supply issue in Gagasan Murni Jaya, Kampung Sri Muar and Felda Bukit Permai was a decade-long problem.

Jafni said water delivery trucks were also delayed after taps ran dry.

Most residents had faced up to four days of water cuts.
