Sabahan dance troupe to represent Malaysia at Dance World Cup 2024

KOTA KINABALU: Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Mutiara's dance troupe, Mutiara Dancer, is set to represent Malaysia at the Dance World Cup 2024 in Prague, Czech Republic, from June 27 to July 6, Sabah Media reported.

The team will depart from Sabah on June 23, following their successful qualification in March where they presented an ethnic-themed performance.

"The Mutiara Dancer ensemble earned the opportunity to represent Malaysia following their successful qualification in March, presenting an ethnic-themed concept.

"Our aim is to showcase Sabah's rich ethnic culture on the global stage, with the students from SK Mutiara serving as youthful ambassadors promoting Sabah's heritage and gaining international recognition," he said.

The event will see the troupe compete in four categories: a solo male Murut dance, a solo female Dusun Lotud (Giring-Giring) dance, a Bajau Samah trio (Anak Samah), and a group Bajau Samah performance (Pesorong Kami).

The team's preparation includes specialised coaching, with ongoing rigorous training since last year. Junaidah shared these details during a courtesy visit to the Sabah Governor Tun Juhar Mahiruddin at Istana Seri Kinabalu ahead of the competition.
