[Updated] Pak Lah warded in IJN's critical care unit

KUALA LUMPUR: Former prime minister Tun Abdullah Badawi has been warded in the National Heart Institute's (IJN) critical care unit (CCU) after being diagnosed with lung issues.

His son-in-law, Khairy Jamaluddin, said Abdullah, better known as Pak Lah, was hospitalised after being diagnosed with spontaneous pneumothorax.

In an Instagram Story posting, Khairy said Abdullah was in stable condition but needed to be warded in the CCU for observation.

"Alhamdulillah, he is in good condition but needs sufficient rest.

"On behalf of the family, we appreciate your prayers and words of encouragement. However, he is unable to receive visitors for the moment," said Khairy, who was former health minister.

In Sept 2022, Khairy had disclosed that Abdullah was suffering from dementia. He said Abdullah began showing signs of cognitive impairment shortly after retiring as the fifth prime minister in 2009 and has since progressively worsened.

Abdullah served as prime minister from 2003 until 2009. He had also held various positions including finance minister, foreign minister and home minister.
