Govt will seek foreign expertise for helicopter crash probe if needed, says Khaled

KUALA TERENGGANU: The government is open to seeking foreign expertise in its probe into the Lumut helicopter crash if necessary, says Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.

He said, for now, the government would leave the probe to an investigation board comprising experts from the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN), Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) and the helicopters' manufacturers.

"As I have announced, an interim report will be ready in two weeks, while a full report will be completed within 30 working days.

"Let's not disrupt (the probe). We want to know what happened so there would not be a repeat (of the accident). We trust them (investigation board)," he told reporters after an event here in Kampung Dusun Tembakau today.

Khaled also said there was no need to ground the M503-3 Maritime Operations Helicopter (HOM) and Fennec M502-6 helicopters.

On Tuesday, a HOM and a Fennec belonging to the navy crashed into each other during a rehearsal for RMN's 90th anniversary celebration.

All 10 crew members on board both helicopters perished.
