Johor police seize RM2.4 mil worth of 'drink sachet' drugs in Taman Pelangi raid

JOHOR BARU: Johor police seized almost RM2.4 million worth of drugs in a raid on a house in Taman Pelangi, here, on Wednesday.

A 35-year-old male suspect with past drug and criminal records who led police to the house was arrested. He was initially stopped by a roadside near the residential area by narcotic officers, who had mounted surveillance on the suspect's operations.

The suspect had been renting a room in the three-room terrace house.

Johor police chief Commissioner M. Kumar said the suspect was part of a drug syndicate, who used the rented room to repack drugs in instant powdered drink sachets before distributing them to his regular "clients".

"The drugs were repacked in 3-in-1 chocolate malt beverage and coffee sachets, while some were mixed with bottled drinks," Kumar told a press conference at the state police contingent headquarters here, today.

"The drugs were repacked in the sachets and bottled drinks to elude police," he said, adding that each sachet could fetch up to RM20.

The suspect who tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine is believed to be a member of the drug syndicate that has been in operation since February this year.

Police seized 231 packets of ecstasy powder, 707 ecstasy pills, ketamine and three litres of narcotic-laced drinks.

Also seized were two cars and RM650.
