RANTAU PANJANG: Four Thai policemen were injured in an attack at their base in Pasemus district in Sungai Golok sub-province, opposite Bukit Lata here, last night.

Sungai Golok police chief, Pol Col Jadsadavit Inprapan said the incident happened at around midnight.

The victims, all with the rank of Sergeant, were warded at Sungai Golok Hospital.

"The suspects were believed to have planted a bomb on the road where the policemen passed by.

"After the bomb exploded, several men fired shots at the policemen.

"The suspects then fled the scene," he said.

Jadsadavit said the policemen suffered multiple injuries.

He added the four were heading to their workplace in Sungai Golok when the incident happened.

"The suspects also threw nails on the road before escaping," he added.

Thai police found a car with a Malaysian registration number plate near the scene.

It is understood that the Thai authorities have beefed up security along its border with Malaysia in Kelantan to prevent the suspects from crossing the border.
