'Lumut 24 Tragedy Fund' allows public to contribute to families of victims in helicopter tragedy

KUALA LUMPUR: The Defence Ministry through the armed foces has set up a special fund to allow the public to contribute financially to the next of kin of victims of the recent Lumut helicopter tragedy.

The incident on April 23 claimed the lives of 10 navy officers and personnel.

In a statement, the armed forces said the fund to be known as "Lumut 24 Tragedy Fund" would help to alleviate the burden of these families who have lost their loved ones.

"The Lumut 24 Tragedy Fund will be activated from beginning from the issuance of this announcement until the end of June 2024.

"Its main objective is to facilitate the public so they can contribute financially to the families of victims, which will help alleviate their burden after losing their beloved family members."

Contributions can be made directly online to the Affin Bank account by stating "Lumut 24 Tragedy Fund" as the reference or via cheque made payable to "Tabung Kebajikan Angkatan Tentera."

The ministry also thanked the public in advanced for their contributions to the families of the victims.

Ten people were killed when two Malaysian Armed Forces helicopters crashed following a mid-air collision in Lumut, Perak on April 23.

The Agusta Westland AW139 Maritime Operations Helicopter (HOM) and a Eurocopter Fennec, collided during a mid-air manoeuvre during a flypast training for the Royal Malaysian Navy's (RMN) 90th Anniversary celebrations.
