New commando Chan says he will uphold its good name until the end of his life [WATCH]

KUALA LUMPUR: Second Lieutenant Chan Ming Youn's dream of becoming a commando finally came true.

Chan, 25, from the 2nd Battalion of the Royal Ranger Regiment, holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman.

He said he wanted to serve the country by joining the army.

"My goal is to continue serving as a commando and increase my knowledge by taking courses.

"I will uphold the good name of the commandos until the end of my life."

Recently, 69 students of the Commando Basic Course were awarded green berets at a parade, said a Facebook post of Berita Tentera Darat Malaysia.

The parade was held at Bertutu Laut Beach in Sungai Udang, Melaka, on April 18, and marked the end of their training.

Present was Major General Adi Ridzwan Abdullah, commander of the Special Operations Group.

Adi reminded his students to maintain the majesty of the green beret as an image of professional and competent special force operators.

"Keep this green beret from being tarnished because it will waste the sacrifices of those who worked hard to get it.

"It'll be unfortunate if wearers of the green beret are stripped of it due to misconduct, such as disobeying instructions or committing acts contrary to service rules."

Meanwhile, Chan was the only Chinese student who completed the 12-week training course.

He was a member of 515 Territorial Army Regiment and challenged himself to become a commando.

Netizens congratulated him for his achievement.

@Shed Md Safar said: "Respect wataniah. Most of those from wataniah are professionals, but deep down, we are soldiers."

@Mohd Ariffsaid said: "You are the best, sir! From Territorial to Regular, and now you are a green beret wearer."
