[Updated] Man drowned while trying to save daughter

KUALA KUBU BARU: A 41-year-old man's courageous attempt to save his daughter, who slipped into Sungai Jeram Ngenjur in Batang Kali near here, ended in tragedy after both of them drowned today.

The situation took even a more heartbreaking turn when his son also drowned after he jumped into the river.

Hulu Selangor district police chief Superintendent Ahmad Faizal Tahrim said the police were alerted to the incident by MERS 999 at 1.14pm.

"Preliminary investigation the victims together with other members of their family were on recreational outings.

"The incident happened when the man was trying to save his daughter who suddenly slipped into the river. At the same time, the man's son, without the knowledge of his mother, also jumped into the river," Ahmad Faizal said in a statement today.

He added that the bodies of all the victims were recovered by members of the public at 1.30pm.

"All victims were confirmed dead by medical officers from the Kuala Kubu Baharu Hospital," he said, adding that the case has been classified as sudden death.

It was reported that an outing for a man and his two children ended in tragedy after they were found drowned in a river near Jalan Genting Lama - Batang Kali today.

The bodies of the man and his two children, aged between six and nine, were all found about 30m from the spot where they were last seen.
