Uprooted trees due to heavy rain reported in 10 locations

GEORGE TOWN: Heavy rain and strong winds resulted in uprooted trees in several parts of Penang island.

At least 10 locations reported incidences of uprooted trees to the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) hotline from 11pm to 1am.

The 10 locations included Pintasan Cecil, Taman Bukit Gelugor, Jalan Bell, Jalan Burma (Indonesia Consulate), Park Road, Jalan Biggs, Jalan Cantonment, in front of Menara KWSP on Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah, Jalan Macalister and Flat Hamna on Jalan Sungai Dua.

Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries.

However, some trees fell on the road while others landed on electric poles and caused distruption to the electricity supply.

MBPP's Skuad Pantas immediately got to work and managed to clear off the fallen trees and branches.

"MBPP's Skuad Pantas completed clearing works at all locations except at Flat Hamna on Jalan Sungai Dua as special machinery was required and due to the safety of workers.

"We also thank the Fire and Rescue Department and the Civil Defence Force for their help in expediting clearing works," MBPP said on its Facebook page.

Complaints of uprooted trees, landslides and others can be channeled to MBPP's hotline at 04-263 7000 or 04-263 7637 or WhatsApp 016-2004082.
