Perkeso to give aid to e-hailing driver injured by uprooted KL tree

PUTRAJAYA:The e-hailing driver who was injured in the uprooted tree incident in Jalan Sultan Ismail on Tuesday will receive assistance from the Social Security Organisation (Perkeso).

Human Resources Minister Steven Sim said the victim, Abdul Hayyi Al Hakimi Nazli, 26, is a Perkeso contributor.

"The victim, who sustained injuries to the head, chest and arms, is eligible for the Temporary Disability Benefits through the Self-Employment Social Security Scheme (SKSPS)," said Sim.

"He can also apply for medical treatment benefits under the Permanent Disability Benefits if he experiences permanent disability.

"SKPS reflects Perkeso's concerted effort to address the evolving needs of Malaysia's workforce, particularly in light of the growing prominence of the gig economy."

"A social safety net is crucial, including for self-employed individuals, as misfortune can strike unexpectedly.

"This protection can at least provide financial support to contributors or their next of kin in the event of a disaster."
