Bank Negara ordered to pay RM366,062 to ex-staff for unlawful dismissal

KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court here today ordered Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) to pay compensation of RM366,062 to its former manager who was dismissed for involvement in political activities.

Additionally, BNM was also instructed to pay RM50,000 as costs.

The compensation was awarded by Judge Datuk Ahmad Bache during proceedings for the assessment of damages today.

On March 29, the High Court found the dismissal of Y Kohila, who is also an activist with the Socialist Party of Malaysia (PSM), on July 19, 2017, to be unlawful as the dismissal procedure was deemed invalid, unfair, and contrary to natural justice.

Kohila was represented by Senior Counsel Datuk S Ambiga.

The compensation decision today was also shared by the Socialist Party of Malaysia (PSM) through its social media accounts.
