KUALA LUMPUR: Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is expected to announce "good news" on essential food items tomorrow.
Fahmi, who is also the unity government spokesman, however, did not reveal details of the announcement.
"It (the announcement) concerns daily basic food items. Let us wait for the announcement from the Prime Minister tomorrow," he told reporters after launching Mydin Mart Pantai Dalam here today.
Present was Mydin's managing director Datuk Dr Ameer Ali Mydin.
When asked about the specific details on the announcement, Fahmi replied: "not more than that".
The announcement to be made by Anwar, said Fahmi, reflected to the good cooperation between the federal government and the industrial sector.
"They that our intention is (to help) the people," he said.
During the opening ceremony of the mart, Fahmi, who is also the Pantai Dalam member of Parliament and Ameer Ali, distributed food baskets to 50 underprivileged families in the parliamentary constituency.
