'I have no desire to celebrate Raya tomorrow', says father after sons die in crash

SIK: Mohd Delmi Mat Isa and his family's excitement in preparing for Hari Raya Aidiladha tomorrow turned to sorrow when he lost two of his children in a fatal accident on Jalan Teroi Titi Lahar, Yan, yesterday.

Delmi said that the accident that claimed the lives of his two sons, Muhammad Zulqarnain, 22, and Ahmad Firashi, 11, came as a shock to the family.

Delmi, 54, said he had promised Firashi to take him for a haircut yesterday in preparation for Hari Raya Aidiladha.

He said that at the time of the incident, Firashi was still unwell. He had given Firashi some medicine before the two brothers went out on a motorcycle to go fishing at Sungai Dedap, Yan.

Delmi, a father of six, said he had advised his sons, the third and fifth in the family, to return home before dark.

He said the boy's sister, Nurin Afiqah, 23, had also promised to take Firashi to Jeniang town in the afternoon to buy festive supplies.

"I never expected that they would be involved in an accident.

"I have no desire to celebrate Raya tomorrow. I've lost them forever," he said when met at their home in Kampung Charuk Tala, Jeniang, today.

Delmi, a tour bus driver, said while he accepted it as fate, he and his wife, Siti Nur Zakaria, 47, were broken by the tragedy.

"The last time I saw them was around 10am yesterday when they were getting ready to go fishing. The two were very close.

"I regret not stopping them from going out as Firashi was still unwell," he said.

He said the family learnt of the incident from a friend who came to their house after Maghrib prayers yesterday.

"My knees buckled when I heard the news. My wife cried after getting a phone call later from the police, confirming the incident," he added.

Delmi said the two brothers were laid to rest at the Masjid Al-Maarifi Islamic Cemetery in Jeneri earlier today.

Yesterday, the media reported that the two brothers died after their Honda RS-X motorcycle collided with a Toyota Vios on Jalan Teroi Titi Lahar around 8.30pm.

The 61-year-old driver of the car sustained chest injuries due to the accident.
