#NSTviral: Passions run high as Indonesian voters flock to polling centre at WTCKL [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: The Kuala Lumpur World Trade Centre (WTCKL) was filled with emotions and enthusiasm as Indonesian voters passionately rallied behind their preferred presidential candidates.

In a widely-shared video on social media, they were seen chanting for the presidential hopefuls, former army general Prabowo Subianto and former Jakarta governor Anies Baswedan.

The voters, who come from all walks of life and across different age groups, were driven by a common aspiration to partake in their country's democratic process.

Two distinct groups emerged, each passionately chanting the names of their favoured candidates.

The voters displayed numbers on their fingers representing the candidates, with Anies being candidate one and Prabowo being candidate two.

Families also brought their children along, instilling in them the values of civic duty and democratic participation.

Indonesia began the selection process for its new president on Nov 28 last year, with three candidates vying to become the country's next leader on Feb 14.

One name notably absent from the ballot is that of outgoing President Joko Widodo, or Jokowi, who had completed his two-term limit as the country's leader.

Indonesian ambassador to Malaysia, Hermono, said the Kuala Lumpur World Trade Centre was selected by the Election Commission as the venue for the polls so that the voting process could be carried out in just one place to make it easier and convenient.

He added that this also allowed better monitoring of the election process.

He said four halls were being used for the voting process, with 1,561 election commission officers on duty.
