Opposition's internal conflicts will crash Malaysia's economy: Najib

KUALA LUMPUR: The Opposition’s internal conflict will divert their attention from the people and cause the economy to suffer if they form the Federal government.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak on his blog today said the coalition’s leadership, which was often riddled with internal conflicts, would lead to the Cabinet being constantly reshuffled.

“As a result, the government’s basic services and facilities will be disrupted,” he said, adding that based on history, the Opposition pacts never lasted long.

Since 1986, the Opposition parties have formed nine coalitions such as Barisan Alternatif in 1998, which only lasted until 2008.

“They then formed Pakatan Rakyat in 2008 until it was dissolved in 2015. All these coalitions had to be dissolved only after a few years.

“The funny thing is there is now a small party in the coalition that wants to change the name (of the coalition) to Pakatan Harapan. Which Pakatan will arise next?” Najib questioned in referring to Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM).

He said in Opposition-led Selangor, the conflict was evident especially between Pas and DAP.

“If both parties cut ties with the state government, the Menteri Besar’s position will definitely be threatened.

“Imagine if this had happened at the Federal level. To ensure economic development and citizens’ welfare are protected, the government should be led by a strong, experienced and united coalition,” he stressed.
