People are angry, disappointed at us, says Nik Nazmi

SHAH ALAM: A "tragedy" within the opposition pact has made the people angry and disappointed at its leadership, said PKR Youth chief Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.

In his opening speech at the party's annual congress today, Nik Nazmi said the "tragedy" gave an impression that the opposition was not ready to govern the country.

"Like it or not, surely the majority of voters who put their hopes on us during the 13th General Election felt angry, disappointed and unsatisfied following all the issues surrounding the pact.

"If we look at it, it was a big tragedy.

"The opposition mentality is still there and this has led to our failure to manage the issue with maturity and at the same time it gives the impression that we're not ready to govern (the country)," he said.

Although Nik Nazmi did not elaborate on the "tragedy", it was believed that he was referring to the break up of the now-defunct Pakatan Rakyat.

After Pas expressed hope to table hudud-linked law in Kelantan in 2015, DAP slammed the Islamic party and the two eventually cut ties with each other.

Last Thursday, Pas officially ended its 18 years of cooperation with PKR, with the Syura Council deciding that the move was necessary in order to defend the party’s Islamic agenda.

The Syura Council accused PKR of breaking many terms of its conditional cooperation with Pas, failing to support it in its Islamic agenda, and working against it in two by-elections last year.
