Perkasa advises Malay politicians to lead by example, stop bickering

KUALA LUMPUR: Muslims and Malay-based political parties should lead by example instead of attacking one another, Pertubuhan Pribumi Perkasa Malaysia (Perkasa) said today.

Its president Datuk Ibrahim Ali said mudslinging and constant bickering among Malay political leaders were counterproductive and would only lead to unruly situation in the country.

“Malaysia is a country of diverse cultures but if the majority is not able to be at peace with one another, how can they guarantee that others will follow?

"Some of these parties are strong, so why should they focus on petty things,” he said at the Malay rights group's annual Selangor branch congress today.

“This kind of situation between Malay leaders will also confuse the voters when the time arrives for them to choose who should govern the country,” he said.

“Regardless of which political party the candidate belongs to, whether it is a race-based and religious-based political parties, (I feel) it is better for voters to consider voting based on the candidate's political campaign instead," he said.

On another matter, Ibrahim said the government should be more serious in taking action against those who were disrespectful towards the monarchy as cleary seen in recent times.

"There appear to be a lack of respect towards the sovereignty of the King," he said.

Four days ago, police have arrested Facebook user ‘Catt Ginger' for allegedly insulting the Yang DiPertuan Agong, Sultan Muhammad V.

Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar confirmed the arrest on his official Twitter account.
