Pakatan Harapan's leaders each have clear-cut roles: Muhyiddin

PETALING JAYA: Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has denied claims that there is no clear demarcation of roles in Pakatan Harapan’s top posts, saying the functions of each office bearer are well defined in the pact’s draft constitution.

Muhyiddin, who is Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) president, also said the roles of the top three positions in the coalition’s presidential council were distinct and did not overlap one another.

“The decision (to appoint these leaders) was made by consensus among all Pakatan parties, so there is no confusion. All appointees have their respective functions and responsibilities.

“Although there are different positions, there is a collective responsibility and everyone works as a team,” Muhyiddin said during a press conference here today.

He, however, did not elaborate on the roles of each top post.

Muhyiddin was responding to claims by detractors that the newly-announced Pakatan Harapan leadership line-up did not make it clear who was the pact’s primary decision maker.

This came after Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, following his appointment as Pakatan Harapan chairman, claimed that he was now the “top dog” in the four-party coalition.

Jailed former opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was named the pact’s de facto leader while his wife and PKR president, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, was appointed its president.

On the upcoming 14th General Election, Muhyiddin expressed confidence that PPBM would dismantle Barisan Nasional’s “strongholds” in all 54 Felda settlements nationwide.

Muhyiddin, who is Pagoh MP, claimed Felda settlers have now switched their support to PPBM during the party’s recent visits to several settlements.

“Here is some bad news for BN. They can stop dreaming about winning big (at Felda settlements). We have received a very loud and clear message from the settlers there.

“The reception PPBM received in those areas was huge,” he said.

Muhyiddin also said Pakatan Harapan was in the midst of finalising its election manifesto, which will be made public soon.
