Eric See-To makes move to sue Guan Eng, claims he is tired of waiting

KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional Strategic Communications (BNSC) deputy director Eric See-To plans to sue Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.

He said he was tired of waiting for the latter to carry out his threat to sue him.

“As of today, almost four weeks after his threat to sue, I have yet to receive any legal letter from Lim Guan Eng or his lawyers.”

“As I am tired of waiting for the letter from Guan Eng, I have instructed my lawyers to issue a letter of demand to Guan Eng by next week to comply with my demands – failing which, I shall commence a legal suit against him.”

“In my suit, I will demand that Guan Eng and/or the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) prove that I have ever issued a statement that said Guan Eng had made such a statement or a speech on July 1, 2017 in the DAP Penang Hari Raya Aidilfitri Open House in Jawi, Nibong Tebal – the alleged issue which the CMO’s statement deemed as defamatory,” See-To said in a statement to the press here today.

Guan Eng’s press statement had claimed that the state’s residents were angry that the “leader of a clean government” had been charged with corruption and that the RM400 million in donations under the state’s I-sejahtera was under threat.

See-To stated that his suit was to ensure that Guan Eng took responsibility for his public statements rather than accusing others of defamation.

“I also want Guan Eng and/or the CMO to prove that the following statement did not come from his press statement dated July 1, 2016,” he added.

“Instead of threatening to sue and attempting to discredit me, actually replying to our questions would have been more democratic.

“It is also to send a message to him that that he cannot and must not be allowed to repeatedly use legal avenues to silence his critics or the media organisations, who are just doing their job to carry the messages of his critics,” he added.
