KOTA KINABALU: Infighting among opposition parties in Sabah will only sway voters to pick Barisan Nasional (BN) come election time.
Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah (Harapan Rakyat) president Datuk Seri Lajim Ukin in cautioning this, said people in Sabah are likely to favour BN over opposition parties which are falling apart.
“BN has 14 component parties but they are united and came up with only one manifesto,” said Lajim who is also opposition leader at the State Legislative Assembly.
“Unlike the opposition, there are so many manifestos and that might confuse the people to choose on which one is better.
“People are constantly observing whether opposition can unite but current situation shows otherwise,” he said when met after the state assembly sitting here.
Lajim added it was important for the opposition to have common aims on fighting for the people’s rights and not only serving personal agendas.
The Klias assemblyman also said there had been efforts to unite all opposition parties but unfortunately some had announced their intentions to contest at all parliamentary and state seats.
“What is the point of becoming chief minister if the people are still poor, suffering and there is no development being carried out?”
Meanwhile, Lajim said his lawyer would study over the details of circulated video allegedly implicating him mentioning a party president to have been involved in the making of dubious identity cards.
He denied mentioning any individual, stating,” I don’t know who recorded or shared it, but I did not say it.”
Based on the video, Lajim was believed to have made his speech at the Convention of Sabah Rights in Tongod, on Aug 3.
Two days ago Parti Warisan Sabah, led by Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal as its president, had issued a letter to Lajim and gave him three days to explain over the issue.
