BN component parties mulling seat-swapping for GE14: MCA

KUALA LUMPUR: MCA said today that seat-swapping among Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties is a possibility in the coming 14th General Election (GE14).

Its president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai officially revealed that there are ongoing discussions on possible switching of seats.

"We are ready to take on the upcoming general election and have started necessary preparations.

"(But) we will not be able to disclose anything yet (on the swapping of seats), as discussions are still running at the BN level.

"Until the election date is announced, or before we reach a consensus between component parties, we will not be announcing the changes in seats," he said.

Liow, who is also Bentong MP, added that the party is open to discussion, if necessary – especially on matters pertaining to seat allocation.

"Whether it is swapping, adding, reducing or any general election-related matter – we are ready to discuss it with other component parties,” he added.

Earlier this week, however, Liow said that there will be no changes to MCA’s traditional allocation of seats.

On a related matter, Liow said that the selection of MCA candidates for the GE14 is in its final stage, and that a public survey will be carried out before the party can finalise the list.

He stated that MCA is eyeing 40 Parliamentary and 90 state seats.

In the last general election in 2013, MCA won seven Parliamentary and 11 state seats.
