ISKANDAR PUTERI: The opposition is daydreaming by believing that the coalition can win more seats in Johor in the next general elections, MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong said today.
This, he said was because Johor Barisan Nasional has become strong and formidable under the leadership of Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.
The opposition, especially DAP, he said was only saying this to convince itself that it has a chance in Johor.
"Let them continue to daydream and say what they want because that is the nature of competition.
"(The fact is) Johor BN under Khaled is strong and each component parties have come up with the necessary strategies to ensure victory for BN," said Wee.
He said there appeared to be a hidden message in DAP's claims that the 'Malay tsunami' would help the oppositions win more seats in Johor.
"What they are trying to say is that the Malay votes will be split and the Chinese will become the kingmakers. That is what they want to say but are scared to say it out loud," said Wee.
He was speaking to the media after opening the Johor MCA Youth Convention. Also present was deputy Johor MCA liaison committee chairman Datuk Tee Siew Kiong.
Wee, who is also the Johor MCA liaison committee chairman, said he does not expect much changes in the seats allocation for the party for the next general election.
"By convention, we are expecting the same number of seats. Because of the spirit of BN in Johor, we will not make any unnecessary changes," said Wee.
He said the party would like to thanked Khaled for returning the Gelang Patah seat to MCA, which in turn has voluntarily hand over the Skudai state seat to Gerakan.
"We realise that Gerakan has done a lot of good work in Skudai over the years. This is the spirit of cooperation that exists in BN but absent in the opposition," said Wee.
He also said that this time around, MCA was confident of winning some of the seats that it had lost in the previous general elections.
"We are not underestimating the opposition but we are confident that, with the help of other BN component parties, we will win back some of the seats that we have lost." said Wee.
