Najib's visit to the US reflects recognition of world superpower president towards M'sia

PADANG TERAP: Datuk Seri Najib Razak's successful trip to the United States has been described as the Prime Minister's trump card against his critics, in particular the opposition leaders.

Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said Najib's successful meeting with US President Donald J. Trump had left the opposition leaders at a loss for words in undermining the prime minister's credibility.

Mahdzir said the opposition leaders had been making all sorts of negative remarks on Najib's state visit to Washington but were left speechless following its successful outcome.

"Evidently President Donald Trump himself had received the prime minister at the White House and it was covered by the CNN (Cable News Network).

"To me the visit was good for the country as it reflected the acknowledgement of a world superpower president towards our country and we should congratulate the prime minister," he said.

Mahdzir said the opposition leaders had been casting doubts on Najib's economic policy but Bank Negara has recently announced that the country Gross Domestic Product (GDP) had grown by 5.8 per cent until June 30.

"They had also created a fuss over investments from China and I do not foresee what is the problem with that...The opposition also used the 1MDB (1Malaysia Development Bhd) issue to scare off investors but MITI (Ministry of International Trade and Industry) announced that foreign investors are coming to Penang, Johor, Selangor and other states nationwide.

"So, I believe they (the opposition) are now at a loss for words on what is left to be used to attack the prime minister," he said after launching the Padang Terap Umno Wanita wing Jaringan Rakyat machinery at Kuala Nerang here.

On Monday, Trump hosted Najib at the White House to strengthen the comprehensive partnership as the two countries mark the 60th anniversary of bilateral relations.
