MIC submits list of candidates for GE14 to Prime Minister

KUALA LUMPUR : Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) has submitted its list of candidates’ names for the coming 14th general election to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

Its president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam said Najib, who is Barisan Nasional leader, was expected to approve the list before MIC could submit it to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) board to be screened.

He said that every constituency has a number of candidates under MIC for Prime Minister to select.

“This time in the list there are more new candidates to attract the younger voters,” Subramaniam said at the National Gynae-Oncology Conference 2017 here.

“Our main focus for the election is Sungai Siput among the hot spots. Also, I am confident with the Prime Minister’s decision to select the candidates to ensure a uniform and united Barisan Nasional,” he said.

MIC recently had its 71st general assembly where they confirmed the list of candidates for the election.

Recently, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Dzulkifli Ahmad announced that there would be selected background checks on election candidates in its vetting process.

MACC noted the findings on the candidates would be kept confidential.

As of Sept 29, Barisan Nasional is the only party to submit their 14th General Election candidates list for screening to MACC.
