Khalid Ibrahim says not joining any parties but will support Pas

SHAH ALAM: Independent Selangor state assemblyman and MP Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim has shot down suggestions of him joining Pas or Barisan Nasional, but he has pledged his support for the Islamic party in the 14th general election.

The former Selangor Menteri Besar said he has no qualms embarking on political campaigns for Pas as the party had helped him tremendously when he stepped into the world of politics.

"I have countless times said I am indebted to them when I joined politics. Their action was very precious and I am grateful for that. So don't be afraid that I will join other political parties.

"No. But I will continue to assist Pas," said Khalid during the Selangor Pas election fundraising hi-tea today.

Also present were Selangor Pas commissioner Sallehen Mukhyi, state election director Roslan Shahir as well as Pas central committee member Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz.

Khalid also dismissed rumours that he will join Selangor BN to form a line of four former Menteri Besars to wrest Selangor from Pakatan Harapan.

The report stated that Khalid would be making an announcement today.

"Those are slanders and it is normal," he added.

Khalid also stressed that he would not be defending his Port Klang state and Bandar Tun Razak parliamentary seats which he has held for two terms since 2008 in the 14th general election.

He said he was willing to cooperate with both sides of the divide, including Barisan Nasional on issues that would benefit the people.

"Any issues that would bring good to the people of Selangor, such as the much talked about the water industry takeover to be sped up and I am supportive of that.

"I will stand with any political party on issues that champions for the betterment of the people. I would even ask the three former Menteri Besar's to join me in that cause, even Pas.

"What I do is important, not where I stand, and it does not mean I support BN or Pas. We do not join politics for the sake of politicking, but we do it for the benefit and justice for the people," said Khalid.

Meanwhile, Sallehen said Pas was willing to work with anyone who wants to ensure that the country is corruption free.

"We want to be with any party that wants to eradicate corruption but we will have our own principles too," he said.
